Bert Sparky, the fruit barrow man, laments their absence but is soon caught up in discovering where the children have gone, and exactly who has been spiriting them away. He and the local constable travel to the world under the street and, after several close shaves, rescue the captive children and Jenny Jones, a metermaid who was enchanted by accident. The Incredible Vanishing is a farce full of fun and excitement. The author has drawn the best bits from several legends and tales and interspersed the result with quick-witted humour and audience involvement.
