An Introduction to Directing - Presented by Barry Grant

Elmwood Players are holding a one day course on Sunday February 4th at the Elmwood Auditorium to explain the task of directing and show you what you need to know before you take on the responsibility of presenting a play to a paying public. Learning to direct takes many years and you never stop learning, but every director starts by taking the initial plunge, directing their first play, at some stage.
This course will help you decide whether you want to take that leap or continue your career as an actor, technician, stage manager, costumier, props person, administrator, backstage help (all vitally important roles!) or whatever.
There is no charge to attend, but places are limited. The course will start at 10 am. The first 2 hours will be an outline of the job of directing. During the lunch break from 12 to 1 you will study a section of a one act playscript from a directorial point of view, then in the afternoon you will direct a rehearsed reading using fellow attendees as your cast, and present it to the audience of your peers.
Tea and coffee will be supplied. Please bring your own lunch with you as there won't be time to leave the auditorium between the morning and afternoon sessions. There is a fridge, oven and microwave available.
The morning section of the course will cover, but may not be limited to, the following aspects:
