A play about the beginnings of psychotherapy, the setting is the criminal wing of Bethlem Hospital for the Insane, Southwark, London, 1854. The story is told from the point of view of two doctors working within the criminal wing of Bethlem Asylum. Doctors Charles Hood and George Haydon strive separately for alternatives to the medieval horrors of restraint, but are united in their abhorrence of such institutionalised brutality.  Talk delves into the complexities of mental health, particularly focusing on the impact of loss and the journey of healing.

He realises they have financial problems; the house might be repossessed. Three years earlier Judy had taken voluntary redundancy, but the money has run out. He is underperforming at work and doesn’t earn as much commission. He says he isn’t happy. They need to change. He gets a promotion, but it will involve a long commute. They agree to compromise.
