Hyacinth learns that Emmet needs a leading lady for the murder mystery that he is directing for the local theatre group, but is shocked to discover her relatives, Daisy, Rose and Onslow are also in the play and Daisy is playing the Duchess... Auditions will be a cold read with scripts available on the day. |
The Characters
Hyacinth Bucket - Female 45+ Social-climbing snob Hyacinth Bucket, who insists that her surname is pronounced "Bouquet". Hyacinth's primary aims in life are to impress people, particularly of the upper and upper-middle classes, and to give the impression that she is of high social standing, despite her fairly average status. Emmet - Male 40+ A cultured person, unlike most of Hyacinth's acquaintances. He rides horses, enjoys working in the garden, and has a fondness for sherry. He is a classically trained pianist, as well as both producer and director for the local amateur operatic society. Liz - Female 40+ Hyacinth's neighbour Onslow - Male 40+ A tattooed, beer-guzzling, unemployed and apathetic slob intensely despised by Hyacinth. Onslow is proudly "workshy, bone idle and out of condition", and rarely gets up before lunch or dinner time Daisy - Female 40+ Hyacinth's younger sister and Onslows unsatisfied wife. Rose - Female 30+ Hyacinth's even younger and lustful sister with an eye for men and a taste for short skirts and flashy, provocative outfits. Mrs Debdon - Female - Any adult age A posh local councillor. Milly (Mr Milson) - Male - Any adult age A shy man who is wanting to try out for a part in Emmet's production. Daddy - Male - 50+ Non speaking part. Must be comfortable appearing in underwear on stage. |
